After a fire badly damaged the Postal Hall of Melbourne GPO on August 2001,a photogrammetric survey was undertaken to help in
the reconstruction.
Photogrammetry proved very effective in quickly and accurately capturing all the information necessary to produce detailed
drawings of the damaged section of the building. All the photographs were taken soon after the fire, from the balustrades
and the windows, before the roof and the plaster decorations remaining were demolished to render the site safe. The
photogrammetric analysis was then completed, without delaying the beginning of the work or creating any safety concern.
Together with the drawings of a typical bay, the ceiling and all the details, a 3D model of a corner section was produced for
documentation and visualization purposes.
